Brighton High School Alumni Association
Brighton, MA....Welcome To The Brighton High School Alumni Association.
The BHS Alumni Association's primary mission is to provide you, the graduates of BHS with a lifelong relationship between the school, its students, faculty and staff, past and present. It also exists to provide scholarships to worthy BHS graduates who are pursuing their post-secondary education.
Celebrating 167 years of educational excellence in 2008.
Brighton High School, is located at 25 Warren Street, Brighton, Massachusetts. The school has provided top-quality education, civic values and leadership to the community, the state and the nation since it opened it's original doors in 1841.
The original building was located on Academy Hill Road in Brighton Center. In 1894, the building grew too small and a new school was erected on Cambridge Street, the former William Howard Taft Middle School. Then in 1930, the school moved to its present location atop the hill behind the Taft on Warren Street between St. Elizabeth's Hospital and the Brighton Marine Health Center (formerly the Brighton Marine Hospital).
Our graduates have all left with vision and educational values that have been passed from generation to generation and now to the first generation of the 21st century. They span all facets of the business and professional world; doctors, lawyers, civil servants, educators, politicians, sports figures, actors, models, military and religious leaders and yes...even an Olympic Gold Medalist and a Director of the FBI. "We are what we are, largely in part to the time we spent at the castle".
Brighton High also had the best automotive program in the state for many decades and the talented mechanics that were educated there have helped to keep "the rest of us running" with the pack. Recently, Gary Rogers '70, a former "wrench" as they referred to themselves told us that he got up at 5am every day and took three buses from Charlestown to go to BHS because of its reputation of having the best teachers in the trade teaching there. Gary recently retired after thirty sucessful years with the railroad and has even appeared on the hit TV series "American Choppers". Stories like this echo at all the reunions we attend and the pride of being a "knight" or more recetly a "bengal" is still alive.
Please join us in keeping the tradition and the committment alive by filling out the membership application and returning it with your dues. The key to our success is "you", our alumni. Your support, both financially and with your time will insure an even brighter future for our Alma Mater.
Thank You!

The 2nd Annual Fundraising Auction was held on Friday, May 4, 2007. Festivities included a live and silent auction, Top Ten Raffle, food and entertainment. In a scled-down version of last years event, we rproud to announce that we rasied over $13,700. After expenses, the event net $10,000 to be split between the BHSAA for the Annual Scholarship Fund and to continue the after-school programs reinstituted last year. GREAT JOB TEAM !!!
This years event was chaired by Dr. Margaret "Ranny" Bledsoe, a BPS Principal Fellow on assignment at Brighton High for one year. She and the committee did a fantastic job. At our final wrap-up meeting held on June 6th, we were also told that Ranny has been chosen to be the new Headmaster at Charlestown High School beginning in September 2007. We really wish her the best of luck.
We couldn't have done it without the many sponsors and donors for the event. Thank you all again.
Visit often for updates and a list of future events.
The BHSAA Fund Raising Committee is looking for volunteers. We invite alumni, families, friends, students and community members to become involved. If interested, please call Scott Ployer @ 617/822-7304 or by contacting the BHSAA at bhsalumniassn@aol.com
We need your help to build our on-line auction catalog. We hope to feature between 50 and over 100 items in all price ranges for our cMarket Auction planned for February 2008. Our goal is to raise $15,000 for the BHSAA Scholarship Fund.
We held our first ever on-line auction in October 2007 and although our timing was not as good as we had hoped, we learned the "ins and outs" of the on-line process. Despite not raising the funds we planned, we still raised over $3,000 on our first try and more importantly helped continue to build our list of supporters and alumni. The next one will be much easier but we need everyone's help to insure its success.
Please donate an item; contact us with your name to be put on the e-mail / notification list; refer a friend or business that we can call etc.
YOUR association needs everyone's support to continue fulfilling our mission of giving back. Thank you for being involved. Have a wonderful, safe and healthy new year.
Congratulations to Mr. Doherty on your retirement - 2007. We'll all remember and miss you.
We'd also like to wish Cornelia Kelley, a former english teacher at the school and most recently the headmaster of Boston Latin School our best wishes for a wonderful retirement. You deserve it!
